As the UK’s leading College for younger people who are blind or partially sighted we want to see you succeed. We want to provide training you'll enjoy and that will help you achieve your goals. This whole process starts at your pre-entry assessment (PEA).
Attending an assessment will allow you to find out exactly what RNC can offer. It will also give you a chance to make a comparison between what RNC will deliver and what other Colleges can provide. This will help you choose where you would like to study.
Your assessment will take place over two days (Monday and Tuesday) in our purpose built assessment centre, Gardner Hall. Our Principal meets with you, your family and other potential students when you arrive and before your assessments start on Tuesday morning. Remember other potential students will all be facing the same decisions as you, so it is also a great opportunity to meet other younger people and their families.
During your assessment we will discuss what courses you are interested in, what ambitions you have, as well as assess your literacy, numeracy, ICT, mobility and independent living skills and Braille. Remember, these are not tests. The purpose of the whole assessment is to determine your level of study and if we need to implement support to help you enhance your existing skills. In addition, you will be able to get to know the College and staff better to assist you in making an informed decision about your future.
We have assessments throughout the academic year and your Connexions or Careers Wales Adviser should encourage you to attend an assessment during your first term of Year 11. Do not worry aif you are past that age; we welcome applications throughout the academic year, so it is never too late to get in touch with us.
