Flying the Flag for Visual Impairment in Europe

RNCB is proving to be a key player in developing innovations for use across Europe in education and vocational training for learners with sight loss.

As the country's leading college of further education and training for people who are blind or partially sighted, RNC has the knowledge and expertise that ensures the College can work as a lead partner or participating organisation in a number of EU funded projects.

Guidance, Advice and Training for Parents and Relatives of Visually Impaired Persons.

Funding: 
EU Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) Grundtvig Fund.

Objective:
To understand and reduce the impact of becoming an unexpected carer to a person who has recently become visually impaired.

e-Vision 55 plus

Inclusion of people above 55 with declining eyesight by using electronic technology

Funding: 
EU LLP Grundtvig Fund.

Objective:
The project aims to actively promote the maintenance and further development of high-quality social interactions, via the use of information and access technologies, for people above the age of 55 who have declining eyesight.

AHVIIT - ACCESS

Audio Haptics for Visually Impaired Information Technology.

Funding: 
EU LLP Leonardo Da Vinci Fund.

Objective:
RNC is leading this project aimed at developing pilot materials and on-line vocational and educational training materials using Talking Tactile Technology (T3), an RNC product that delivers visual graphic materials in a non visual format. The project seeks to improve the inclusion of workers or trainees who are blind or partially sighted, in vocational training by using multi sensory learning.


AHVITED

Audio Haptics for Visually Impaired Training and Education at a Distance

Funding: 
EU LLP Socrates Fund.

Objective:
The project aims to research the problems associated with delivering graphical learning materials to visually impaired learners participating in distance learning, primarily using RNC’s Talking Tactile Technology (T3).

Funding:
EU LLP Leonardo Da Vinci Fund.

Objective:
The project produced an online course for the training of e-learning facilitators to teach visually impaired learners online. The course is now ready to be utilised by organisations across Europe and internationally.


E-YES

Funding:
EU LLP Leonardo Da Vinci Fund.

Objective:
This project produced an accessible e-learning platform, based on Moodle, which is now ready to be utilised by organisations across Europe and internationally.


ROBOBRAILLE

Funding:
e-Ten.

Objective:
RoboBraille is an email based translation service capable of translating email attachments to and from contracted braille and to synthetic speech. The project proved popular, and even won a British Computer Society award for The Social Contribution Project in 2007.
