Statement
His Majesty King Charles has a long association with the Royal National College for the Blind. The King has been patron of the College for over 25 years; as then Prince of Wales he took on the role from his mother HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1997. In his first visit to the Midlands as King, he called in to the College in December 2022, to meet students and staff celebrating the College's 150th anniversary.
News of HM The King's cancer diagnosis is of great concern to everyone connected to the College, many of whom met him when he visited.
One of the King's former Equerries, Major (Retd) Peter Flynn MVO, is a governor at the College. He said:
'Everyone at the College sends His Majesty the very best wishes for a swift and complete recovery. The King is very much driven by a strong sense of service and I know he will be keen to get back to all his Royal Duties as soon as possible.'
