Making the Web Work
MAKING YOUR WEBSITE ACCESSIBLE
The UK has around 8.6 million people with disabilities, who control an estimated spending power of over £50 billion every year…
Q: Can you afford not to have a website that is accessible and easy to navigate?
Section III of The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the Code of Practice for this section has made it unlawful for websites to discriminate against users with disabilities.
Relevant quotes from the Code of Practice…
· 2.2: "The Disability Discrimination Act makes it unlawful for a service provider to discriminate against a disabled person by refusing to provide any service which it provides to members of the public."
·
· 4.7: "A service provider has to take reasonable steps to change a practice which makes it unreasonably difficult for disabled people to make use of its services."
·
The number of enquiries from organisations seeking advice on website accessibility has suggested a need for training. And who better to assist, than The Royal National College for the Blind? A Beacon College which has over 130 years of expertise in the education and training of people who are blind or visually impaired.
