Whether you are in the manufacturing, government, tourism or medical sectors or the service industries, people with visual impairments will appreciate your efforts to provide information in a format that is accessible for them. What's more it creates a great impression and makes life more accessible for everyone.

  1. Alternative Format Media ie information transcription service. Making your printed literature accessible for readers with a visual impairment
  2. Producing tactile drawings for use in the classroom, training environment and classroom etc
  3. Advice, Guidance and Consultancy Services on any issue relating to visual impairment

Over 2 million people in the UK have significant sight loss, making it impossible to read standard print. With the impact of the Disability Discrimination Act and the significant spending power of this sizeable group, can you afford not to provide alternative formats? RNC have produced a comprehensive service to meet the needs or all organisations and customers. Scroll down for more information and also refer to the training section on the support we can offer you through our specialist training services.

Alternative Format Media -Information Transcription Service

The Disability Discrimination Act requires that all organisations make "reasonable adjustments" to enable access to services by people with disabilities. What easier "reasonable adjustment" is there than transforming your printed materials for your visually impaired customers and employees - quickly and economically.

We offer a competitive and professional service to external customers who require their documentation transcribed into a range of accessible formats. Leave a lasting, positive impression by providing your information in:

Braille:  Large Print:   Audio:  Tactile Images:  Web Site Audits:

Braille is a widely recognised system of dots that provide tactile information to the reader. Any document can be transcribed into Braille. Large print is another option providing access to written materials for people with partial sight loss. There is also a growing demand for audio transcriptions where materials are put onto CD, MP3, tape or Daisy formats and you can choose either a human voice recording or text to speech. Tactile drawings are produced on swell paper which is a robust material which offers a product which is contusive to the customer as it has a softer tactile which is not abrasive to the finger tips.

How Accessible is Your Website?

Over 80% of websites do not meet basic accessibility guidelines. If your organisation operates a website in the UK, you should be aware of Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act, since it is unlawful for websites to discriminate against internet users with disabilities. The knock-on effect of an accessibility audit is that once compatible they are usually easier to use by everyone. The easier it is to navigate your site, the more customers are likely to use it.

RNC provide a three tier service:

Tier 1: Web site audit - we visit your web site and test its accessibility

Tier 2 : Audit and Report - we visit and audit your website providing you with a detailed report including recommendations to develop accessibility

Tier 3: Audit, Report, Adjust - we visit, audit, report and repair ensuring accessibility. This gold star service affords you the right to promote your commitment to accessibility by displaying our RNC endorsement logo.

Prices vary depending on the size and complexity of your web site. Please call our Consultancy and Specialist Training Advisor Kay Smillie for more information or a quote on 01432 376389 or email kay.smillie@rnc.ac.uk
