Specialist Training, Awareness & Staff Development


RNC provides a wide range of specialist training associated with the Disability Discrimination Act and Visual Impairment. Our current ‘menu’ of courses includes:
- Raising Awareness of Visual Impairment – Understanding the needs of customers and staff with sight loss. Learning about easy adjustments, gadgets and technology, and practical support
- Equality and Diversity - Raising awareness of equality and diversity for all in the workplace. How to ensure planning and 'embedding' results in best practice and best outcomes
- Preparing for Ofsted in Residential Settings - A consultancy service providing an auditing tool to schools and colleges with residential responsibilities. Building on our 'outstanding' performance across the board by sharing best practice
- Specialist Teacher Training - Highlighting tips and techniques to instil confidence when teaching a group with a student with visual impairment. Helping mainstream schools, colleges, universities and training providers to understand the specialist support and simple adaptations there are for blind and partially sighted learners in education and training
- Subject Specific Teacher Training - On any taught subject required. Our specialist staff can demonstrate how best to adapt your curriculum area. e.g. art and design, sport and recreation, music technology, performing arts, media
- Counselling and Additional and Complex Needs - How to support people with sudden sight loss, additional disabilities, health issues and learning difficulties. How to access suitable external therapeutic intervention and additional support
- Braille - For parents, teaching assistants, teachers and other professionals and those supporting someone with visual impairment. Develop skills from scratch or enhance your existing skills - for sighted and touch readers at any level
- Accessible ICT and Assistive Technology - An introduction to some of the assistive technologies used by people with visual impairment. A look at the technologies used in the home, workplace or place of study - establishing social, professional and academic usage
- ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) - Gain this valuable qualification through our fully accessible distance learning course covering all aspects of commonly used packages. This seven module course is widely recognised and valued by employers throughout the UK
- Mobility and Sighted Guide Techniques – how to recognise if someone has a visual impairment. Professional training in how to approach, greet and effectively guide someone with sight loss in a variety of settings
- Preparing for Employment - Support and training for employment advisors, VI groups and employers to ensure clients with visual impairment are prepared in order to avoid the common barriers to finding work. Advice for employers to ensure they provide and receive the best from current and potential employees with sight loss
- Putting the DDA and your Disability Equality Duty into Practice - Taking a practical view of the act and how it relates to real experiences related to your organisation. The impact of the DDA, promoting best practice and easy solutions
- Making the Web Work - A three tier consultancy identifying the accessibility of your website, promoting solutions and taking action. By utilizing this service and becoming endorsed by us as a fully accessible website you will be able to use our endorsement logo to demonstrate your commitment to accessible services and information
- Tactile diagrams – Using a number of techniques including the T3 to make tactile drawings, maps, charts and diagrams for the workplace and classroom
- T3 Training - Advance your skills in developing the scope of your T3 with RNC specialist training for this product
- Accessible Materials - Promoting best practice and information about how to adjust materials and gain professional transcription for Braille, large print, audio or tactile formats
